Joanne is an education and engagement professional.  She is passionate about life-long learning and building strong communities. Joanne grew up in Orange, attending local schools and making the most of the varied opportunities on offer. She headed to Sydney to finish her education, and worked in Sydney for 10 years in a range of teaching, research, and education roles.

Returning to Orange in 2002, Joanne was heavily involved in teaching, hockey coaching, rugby union, community volunteering and continuing her studies. In 2011, Joanne moved into the tertiary education setting, building on her understanding of secondary education to focus on transition and engagement initiatives for students at Charles Sturt University. She led a range of projects at CSU and became involved in several national industry projects. She has presented at national and international conferences and delivered international workshops on engagement, transition, and student achievement.

While Joanne spent many years coaching and playing sport at elite levels, injury forced an early retirement, and her focus has been moved to broader community service opportunities. Joanne is an active member of the Rotary Club of Orange Daybreak and volunteers her time in a range of other community activities and professional networks. In September 2017 she was elected to Orange City Council, and also elected to the role of Deputy Mayor.

Joanne is a keen renovator, a fair-weather motorcyclist and recreational cyclist and kayaker. Orange’s cold winter weekends are most likely to find her watching disaster movies, doing jigsaw puzzles, or relaxing with a good book.
