Event: Youth Employment Skills (YES) Program – 2017 Workshop Series

Need a hand getting ready for your first job, or your next job? The YES Program is a chance for you to develop your skills and build your confidence.

Participants will learn about resume preparation and job interview skills, while also reflecting on their individual abilities, interests and motivations. The workshops will focus on essential skills for employment, building confidence in seeking work.

The first program will be held across 4 afternoons:

  1. Wednesday  29/11 4pm – 6pm
  2. Thursday 30/11 4pm – 6pm
  3. Thursday 7/12 4pm – 6pm
  4. Thursday 14/1 4pm – 6pm

*Applications for the YES program close Monday 20th November, however, future programs will be held in 2018.

Funded by The Sally Foundation Small Grants Program, The Youth Employment Skills (YES) Program will be delivered in a partnership between headspace Orange and Mayten Consulting, with support from Rotary.

These funds are provided by the Sally Foundation, through the Sally Foundation Orange Region Small Grants Program  – which is administered by the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR).

Event: “Resume Workshop”

2pm – 5pm Thursday 13 July, headspace, Orange. 

This small group workshop will give you hands-on practice and will help you set yourself up for success!

Find out what information to include in your resume and how to format it in a professional way. Learn about contacting and selecting referees, and keeping your resume up to date.

Workshop: “Your First Semester”

6pm – 8.30pm Monday 13 March 2017, Orange Ex-Services Club. 

In partnership with Study Matters Australia

This workshop will provide essential advice on assignments, making the most of your student experience, and living, learning and thriving outside the classroom.

2+ hour intensive workshop open to all university and Diploma and Advanced Diploma college students – all courses (on campus and online) and all cohorts and institutions.

Workshop Outline: two key areas critical for success as a first-year student.

  1. Living, learning and thriving outside the classroom
  • Financial health
  • Scholarship applications
  • Opportunities that separate you from the rest
  • Building your resume/CV and winning your dream job
  1. Introduction to assignment writing
  • Assignment types and their purpose, structure, and format
  • Academic writing style
  • Academic integrity and plagiarism

This workshop will give you the great start you need to become one of the 85% of students who succeed in their college or uni careers and beyond.

Workshop: “What you need to know – Planning for University and Tertiary Study”

Heading off to uni? Save yourself money, time and stress.

Set yourself up for success by attending one of our 2 hour intensive workshops. These workshops are open to commencing students, as well as parents and supporters of commencing students.

Focus Areas:

  • Understanding key terms and jargon
  • Avoiding rookie errors
  • Pathways for support
  • Timelines and milestones
  • Essential resources and skills

There are around 200,000 students commencing study each year. According to Universities Australia, 15% will drop out before graduating. The most common reasons are not related to course content or the choice of degree, but are related to stress or health, financial difficulties, work/life balance, the need to do paid work and their overall workload.
